“HIPAA compliance: another year older, but hopefully not deeper in debt” Review

Deborah Hiser’s article “HIPAA compliance: another year older, but hopefully not deeper in debt” is a very beneficial read for anyone affected by HIPAA compliance. In her article, Hiser mentions the Director’s of the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) report to the Office of the Inspector General and that it is disclosed the OCR will be launching Phase 2 of the HIPAA audit program.

To personalize the risks of non-compliance and the possible ramifications Hiser presents a review of settled cases from the past year that are all to common in Healthcare environments large and small and their painful results to both reputation and budgets. It’s more than worth the time to read the whole thing so here is a sampling:
